Types of Leather

This is a guide to help you choose the perfect leather for whatever piece you are looking to order. The main difference between these leathers is the look both as these pieces are new, and how they are going to age over time.

Because of the oils in your hands, and the wear and tear associated with using leather goods, each type of vegetable tanned leather is going to “patina” over time. This is the normal aging process for leather and it is why leather looks better the more you use it. It develops with age, adding more depth and character to you pieces. This also means that the leather is going to darken over time and is something to keep in mind when you are choosing your colour.

The more “wear and tear” a piece gets, the more it is going to patina. So wallets and daily bags are going to patina a lot, and travel accessories less so.

Secondly, the higher the quality of leather you start with, the longer that you can expect the piece to last. That is why we only made our leather goods with full grain vegetable tanned leather. In leather terms, “genuine” leather is the lowest grade, and full grain is the highest quality.

All of our leathers are tanned as an entire hide, with the least human invention so that you get the quality that you deserve and it will last you a lifetime.

If you have any questions about what type of leather is best for you, please do not hesitate to reach out to us and ask! Also, can special order other colours than those listed on the website at your request if there is something you want that is not listed!

Badalassi Carlo - “Pueblo”

Pueblo Vegetable Tanned Leather comes from the Badalassi Carlo Tannery in Tuscany, Italy. They are well known for their traditional methods of vegetable tanning with tree barks and are a member of the Pelle Conciata al Vegetale in Toscana, a designation that shows dedication to upholding the technical standards and regulations of the highest quality leathers.

Pueblo leather has a unique rustic appearance that adds depth and character which only gets better with age.

Conceria Puccini Attilio- “Matte”

The worlds finest 100% Vegetable tanned leathers.

Direct from the hills of Tuscany, Italy, Conceria Puccini Attilio leathers have unmistakable sensation of sight, touch and smell.

Precious are our bovine raw hides that arrive from the best cattle from France and North Europe, preserved only with coarse salt in order to keep the freshness; our raw hides are taken from what is left from the human meat consumption and we take this discarded-by product to give it new value through the tanning process.

Conceria Puccini Koala Volanato- “Textured”

The Koala Volanato is one of the oldest items of the Conceria Puccini Tannery.

Koala Volanato is made of cow shoulders of the highest quality of french origin and it is 100% vegetable tanned.

Koala Volanato is an entirely vegetable tanned leather with the use of natural tannins such as Quebracho extract that gives softness and firmness to the skin.

This item is oily and fattened with a special grease called “SEGO”, a mixture of different natural ingredients that we realize according to the old recipe of our Tannery. This fat-liquor gives an excellent texture and elasticity to the skin and a soft and warm hand.

Economy Vegetable Tanned

Our economy vegetable tanned options are for people that are looking for the same quality and durability as the 100% Italian leather but from a mass production tannery.

Because of the quantity of production from these tanneries, we are able to offer a cost discount on goods made with these leathers.

These leathers are only available in brown and black, but are still sure to make a statement with any piece that is made from these hides.
